Alas, the first frost has come. It's been an excellent trial year for the Tormato. There were no unforseen problems and things worked just as I had envisioned them....WOW!! (that NEVER happens!)

So, By request, here are the last of the photos for the season.

The hoops remained in place, and firmly held up the tomato plants.

The tomatos grew tall, though we did have a VERY cool July, so they did not get as tall as they normally do.

The hoops even held the tomatoes very nicely!

This plant was pretty loaded.

Here is a fine example of how well the string worked as a trellis.

Same plant, different angle.

That's all folks! I hope to hear from more people trying this again next year!!

It's MidSummer!

And the Tormato! is working according to plan.  There are no signs of bending, bowing, sunlight sensativity or any such other thing people may have been worried about.  The tomatoes are 3 feet tall and strong and healthy.  No sign of a ripe tomato in the near future though!

Above is the first Tormato! that I made.  It used 3/8th's inch PEX and I was worried it wouldn't be sturdy enough.  Turns out that it certainly is sturdy enough!  But really, there is very little difference in cost in the 3/8th's inch Pex and the 1/2 inch and the 1/2 inch just FEELS more secure.

Here is a pretty good shot of the center trellis string helping to center and hold up the tomato plant.  This has turned out to be a breeze!  It also helps in keeping the plant trimmed back to one leader.

The tomatoes are about 3 feet tall now!

The garden full of Tormatoes! (and a few peppers, eggplants, cabbages and cucumbers)

Finally! A stretch of warm (too warm!) days and the tomatoes have risen to the occasion!

The tomatoes are nearly 2 feet tall now.

I've had several requests to show how the feed tube works. It is very simple. Drill a hole in the PVC roughly the size of your watering can (or hose?) and drill some smaller holes in the PVC under ground. Then fill the tube. Viola. There will be some leakage around the Pex, but the water WILL flow downwards and go towards the roots.

I've also had some questions about the trellis system. Here it is, in action.....from the top. As the tomato plant grows, you will gently (GENTLY!!) send it around the string.

The string is sort of hard to see. It is a dark Maroon color
